National Newspapers – People Moves

  • Geoffrey Lean has left his role as Environment Editor of The Independent on Sunday to join The Daily Telegraph. He stepped into his new role as Consulting Editor (environment) for the paper on 8th June. Geoffrey can be contacted at geoffreylean@hotmail.co.uk 
  • The Financial Times has announced the appointment of Sam Jones as Hedge Fund Correspondent, covering the global hedge fund industry. Sam’s start date is yet to be confirmed, although it is expected to be in the next two weeks
  • The Daily Mail recently appointed Ted Verity and Paul Carter as joint Associate Editors. They can both be contacted via news@dailymail.co.uk

  • Todmorden News and Hebden Bridge Times have announced the retirement of Editor Sheila Tordoff. She left her role last week and is to be replaced by Stephen Firth. Stops and Starts

  • The BBC has announced Waybuloo, a magazine based around the children’s TV programme focusing on the development of children's social and emotional learning, is to launch on 24th June. Editor Stephanie Cooper can be contacted at waybuloomagazine@bbc.com
  • Competitor Group has announced a joint venture with Competitor Media UK Ltd to launch Triathlete Europe magazine. The first issue is to be published on 24th July, and then as a monthly publication moving forward. Ian Osborne, an international triathlete with over ten years experience on cycling and triathlon magazines, has been named as Europe Editor for the title
  • Filament, a magazine covering all parts of life, including sex and relationships, has launched. The title is aimed at women aged between 18 and 40 and is edited by Suraya Sidhu Singh. Suraya can be contacted at hello@filamentmagazine.com
  • Personal Computer World, a magazine covering reviews and information on new hardware and software, is to cease as of the August edition. The Incisive Media title is edited by Kelvyn Taylor, contactable via letters@pcw.co.uk

People Moves

  • The Economist's Washington, D.C. Bureau Chief Adrian Wooldridge has returned to the UK to replace Managing Editor Martin Giles. The move follows Giles’ move to San Francisco to become U.S. Technology Correspondent for the title. Adrian is to also write a new business column entitled Wilson, replacing the Face Value column. Adrian steps into his new role on 1st July
  • Horse, a magazine focusing on some of the best riders and biggest names in the equestrian world, will welcome Staphanie Woolon as Editorial Assistant on 29th June. Editor Joanna Browne can be contacted at joanna_browne@ipcmedia.com
  • Future Publishing’s PC Gamer, a magazine covering news, reviews and previews of PC games and products, recently lost Editor Rob Atherton. Deputy Editor Tim Edward has since been promoted to Editor and can be contacted at tim.edward@futurenet.co.uk. The title are yet to replace Tim’s former role
  • Procycling, Future Publishing’s magazine covering all aspects of international cycling, has appointed Cam Winstanley as Editor. He replaces Peter Cossins, who leaves the magazine after ten years but will continue to regularly contribute on a freelance basis. Cam can be contacted at procycling@futurenet.com

  • Axis Magazine, aimed at residents and visitors to North London and East Hertfordshire, has moved offices to Harlow Enterprise Hub, Kao Hockham Building, Edinburgh Way, Harlow CM20 2NQ.   • Sky News has announced the launch of a new HD channel, scheduled for Spring 2010. It will follow an upgrade to studios, production facilities and newsgathering operations in the UK and abroad

People Moves

  • CBBC's Newsround has appointed Owenna Griffiths, currently Assistant Editor on BBC Radio 4's Today, as Editor. Owenna is to replace current Editor Sinead Rocks, who is moving to BBC Current Affairs as Executive Producer, and will step into her new role by the end of July
  • Sales Controller Giles Darby has joined Absolute Radio’s executive team. The change follows Chris Goldson’s appointment as Commercial Director. Whilst Giles will also remain is his sales role, he will work on the agency side of the business with Chris who is to develop the commercial strategy for advertising, digital and branded content
  • The BBC has announced Controller of CBBC Anne Gilchrist is to join the in-house Comedy department as Creative & Business Director. Anne will work on new business and creative platforms such as the Nations & Regions and Comedy North based in Manchester. She will also oversee comedy online and original UK children's comedy. Anne will step in to her new role in September
