Awards

  • BBC Two and Vision Productions were awarded two Foreign Press Association (FPA) Media Awards on 25th November for their documentaries, This World and Wonderland. TV Feature Story of the Year went to This World: The Boys From Baghdad High, (Renegade Pictures Ltd) and Travel and Tourism Story of the Year: TV & Radio was presented to Wonderland: The End Of The World Bus Tour (BBC Vision Productions). Janice Hadlow, Controller of BBC Two, said: "I am delighted that our documentary strands This World and Wonderland have been recognised with these fantastic FPA Media Awards, they are a tribute to all the hard work and sheer brilliance of everyone involved."

National Newspapers – People Moves

  • At The Observer Robert McCrum returned from leave on Monday 17th November to his role as Assistant Editor, Books. Robert can be contacted at robert.mccrum@observer.co.uk

Regional Newspapers

  • Trinity Mirror has announced plans to cut 78 posts in the North West of England and North Wales. The company are to cut 59 editorial posts, 16 drivers and 3 supervisors at its Huddersfield transport department, as the Huddersfield Daily Examiner moves to overnight production

  • craftbubble.com, a social networking website for craft enthusiasts to share their knowledge, meet fellow crafters and display their work, launched on 13th November.   • Journalist Cherry Butler is to leave 50connect.co.uk, a lifestyle website for those over fifty years old, on 28th November. Furthermore, Editor Rachael Hannan recently left her role with no replacement expected. The new content team for the website are Journalists Mark O'Haire and Emily Bird who can be contacted at mohaire@50connect.com and ebird@50connect.com respectively
  • Monthly international lifestyle magazine Wallpaper* recently appointed Daniel Bennetts as Associate Publisher. Daniel can be contacted via contact@wallpaper.com

Publisher Changes

  • Book and Magazine Collector, a monthly magazine containing feature articles about rare and collectable publications, has changed publishers from Diamond Publishing to Warners Group.   • Magicalia Ltd, publisher of Junior, Practical Parenting and Two Wheels Only, moved address on 24th November. The company is now based at 15-18 White Lion Street, Islington, London N1 7PD

Stops and Starts

  • Fleet Industry Confidential (FIC), an electronic publication covering new car launches, news, feature information and statistical data on fleet motors, is to launch on 5th January 2009.   • Chris Hughes, formerly Senior Corporate Reporter at Financial Times, joined breakingviews on Monday 24th November as Senior Editor. Chris can be contacted at chris.hughes@breakingviews.com
  • Professor Rune Todnem By has replaced Professor Colin Carnall as Editor of Journal of Change Management, a quarterly publication covering business in changing markets. Rune will officially join the title in January but can be reached now at rby@qmu.ac.uk

  • Landor Publishing, publisher of titles such as Cinema Business and Local Transport Today, has moved address. The company is now based at 359 Kennington Lane, London SE11 5QY. The telephone and fax numbers are 0845 270 7901 and 0845 270 7960 respectively

Broadcast

Ofcom have announced they have received 48 applications from community radio stations for a full time licence for the East and South East England region. This is the highest number of applications this year as there were more than the 31 applications for a community radio licence in January covering the West Midlands, East Midlands and Lincolnshire

National Broadcast – People Moves

  • Richard Klein has been appointed as Controller of BBC Four, replacing Janice Hadlow who has been appointed as Controller of BBC Two. Richard’s start date is yet to be confirmed, when he joins he will be contactable via Channel Executive David Okuefuna at david.okuefuna@bbc.co.uk

Schedule Changes

  • From 12th January BBC Radio 5 Live is extending The Breakfast Programme, presented by Nicky Campbell and Shelagh Fogarty, to include an hour-long phone in slot between 9:00 and 10:00. Subsequently The Midday News, presented by Aasmah Mir, will cease airing. Aasmah is expected to continue presenting a variety of programmes at the station. Victoria Derbyshire, whose show features phone-ins, interviews, news and sport, will move forward an hour and will air between 10:00 and 13:00. Regional Broadcast - Stops and Starts

  • Canalside Community Radio, a station broadcasting in the Borough of Macclesfield, is to launch on 4th December. The station will broadcast news, community events and issues relevant to the area. The station can be contacted at office@ccr-fm.co.uk
  • Radio Tircoed, a station broadcasting in Tircoed, Penllergaer, Pontardulais, Gorseineon Pontlliw, is to launch on 1st December. The station will broadcast a wide range of programming in Welsh and English with original features including children's stories, local documentaries, topical chat and music from all decades and genres.  Address Changes
